About the Museum

The Museum of the Portuguese Language was officially inaugurated on March 20 and opened its door to the public on March 21, 2006.

The architectural Project for thr Museum of the Portuguese Language was undertaken by Pedro Mendes da Rocha and Paulo Mendes da Rocha.

The Museum received research and design support from a specialized team of more than thirty profissionals, among them sociologists, museologists, experts in the Portuguese Language, and artists, all under the orientation of  the Roberto Marinho Foundation.

The Project cost approximately R$ 37 million reals (19 million US dollars) used to finance the creation, research, and implementation of  the museum and to store the Estação da Luz Building.
